Apple Strudel Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
    • 250g all-purpose flour
    • 1 egg
    • 50g melted butter
    • 50ml warm water
    • A pinch of salt
  • For the filling:
    • 5-6 apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious), peeled and sliced
    • 100g raisins
    • 50g pine nuts
    • 50g sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • Zest of 1 lemon
    • 50g breadcrumbs
    • 50g melted butter
    • Powdered sugar for dusting

Apple Strudel Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • In a bowl, mix the flour, egg, melted butter, warm water, and salt until smooth.
    • Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes elastic.
    • Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the filling:
    • In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, raisins, pine nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon zest.
    • In a pan, brown the breadcrumbs in the melted butter, then set aside.
  3. Assemble the strudel:
    • Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a very thin sheet.
    • Brush the dough with melted butter and sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the surface.
    • Spread the apple mixture evenly on top of the breadcrumbs.
  4. Roll the strudel:
    • Gently roll the dough into a log, starting from one side and using the cloth underneath to help you roll it.
    • Place the strudel on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Brush the strudel with more melted butter.
    • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Serve:
    • Once cooled, dust the strudel with powdered sugar.
    • Slice and serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
