Apple Strudel Ingredients:
- For the dough:
- 250g all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 50g melted butter
- 50ml warm water
- A pinch of salt
- For the filling:
- 5-6 apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious), peeled and sliced
- 100g raisins
- 50g pine nuts
- 50g sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 50g breadcrumbs
- 50g melted butter
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Apple Strudel Instructions:
- Prepare the dough:
- In a bowl, mix the flour, egg, melted butter, warm water, and salt until smooth.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the filling:
- In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, raisins, pine nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon zest.
- In a pan, brown the breadcrumbs in the melted butter, then set aside.
- Assemble the strudel:
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a very thin sheet.
- Brush the dough with melted butter and sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the surface.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly on top of the breadcrumbs.
- Roll the strudel:
- Gently roll the dough into a log, starting from one side and using the cloth underneath to help you roll it.
- Place the strudel on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Brush the strudel with more melted butter.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve:
- Once cooled, dust the strudel with powdered sugar.
- Slice and serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
