Pizza Margherita is a classic of Italian cuisine, simple yet incredibly delicious. With a crispy yet soft base, the flavor of fresh tomato, melted mozzarella, and a touch of basil, this pizza is perfect for any occasion.
Italian Margherita Pizza Ingredients (for 2 pizzas):
- For the dough:
- 500 g of 00 flour
- 300 ml of lukewarm water
- 10 g of salt
- 3 g of fresh yeast
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- For the topping:
- 300 g of tomato sauce
- 250 g of fresh mozzarella
- Fresh basil leaves
- Extra virgin olive oil to taste
- Salt to taste
Italian Margherita Pizza Instructions:
- Prepare the dough:
- In a large bowl, dissolve the fresh yeast in lukewarm water along with the sugar. Let it rest for a few minutes until bubbles form on the surface.
- Gradually add the flour and start mixing. Add the salt and olive oil as well.
- Knead by hand or using a stand mixer for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise for at least 2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Prepare the sauce:
- In a bowl, mix the tomato sauce with a pinch of salt and a drizzle of olive oil. Let it rest to enhance the flavor.
- Shape the dough:
- Once risen, divide the dough into two equal parts.
- Roll each part on a floured surface until you get a thin disk (about 30 cm in diameter), using your hands or a rolling pin.
- Topping and baking:
- Preheat the oven to its maximum temperature (250°C/482°F).
- Spread the tomato sauce on each pizza, leaving a 1 cm border.
- Add slices of fresh mozzarella.
- Bake the pizzas one at a time in the hot oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the mozzarella is fully melted.
- Once out of the oven, top with fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of olive oil.
